Annual Symposium on Refractories, 2019, Wuhan

From October 9th to October 11th, "2019 Annual Symposium on Refractories, Wuhan " was held in the Biyuan Hall of the Steel Building in Qingshan Campus of Wuhan University of Science and Technology. The theme of the conference was innovation leadership and green development. More than 400 experts and scholars from Germany, France, Austria, and the United States attended the conference.

The annual symposium was jointly sponsored by the China Institute of Ceramics Refractory Branch, the State Key Laboratory of Refractories and Metallurgy, and the National-provincial Joint Engineering Research Center of High Temperature Materials and Lining Technology.

Vice-president Liu Jing delivered a speech

At the opening ceremony, the vice-president of our school Liu Jing, delivered a speech. She introduced the basic situation of Wuhan University of Science and Technology to the representatives. She welcomed representatives to strengthen exchanges, deep cooperation, and seek common development, and promote global refractory materials from manufacturing to intellectual creation.

Deputy Secretary General of China Institute of Silicate Tan Fu delivered a speech

Tan Fu, the deputy secretary general of the China Institute of Silicate, introduced the basic situation of the society and congratulated the grand convening of the conference. He thanked Wuhan University of Science and Technology for its long-term support for the work of China Institute of Silicate. He hoped that scholars in this field will jointly promote the continuation and continuous development of refractory scientific research.

Li Yawei, the dean of the Science and Technology Development Institute of our school and vice-chairman of the China Institute of Ceramics Refractory Branch, presided over the opening ceremony.

Mao Xinping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the director of Hubei Province Collaborative Innovation Center of High-performance Steel Materials and Its Application made a report entitled "Near-Form Manufacturing Technology", he introduced the process and application of thin slab continuous casting and rolling and thin strip continuous casting and rolling. He proposed the need for refractory technology in the development of this technology.

Professor Christos Aneziris, academician of the World Ceramics Academy and Professor of Industrial University of Freiberg, Germany, introduced the method, principle and application of metal melt ceramic filters. Wang Gang, professor-level senior engineer of Luoyang Institute of Refractory Materials, Sinosteel Group, introduced the research progress of refractories for aluminum industry. Professor Jacque Poirier of the French National Centre for Scientific Research and the University of Orleans introduced new developments in laboratory characteristics of refractories from three aspects: testing, modeling and industrial applications.

Professor Gu Huazhi, dean of the School of Materials and Metallurgy and the State Department of the State Key Laboratory of Refractory Materials and Metallurgy, introduced the design and exploration of the near-zero heat-damaged refractory lining.

The annual symposium lasted three days and arranged a total of 96 reports in three sub-meetings, which including research areas refractory basic research, refractory raw materials, refractory application, advanced manufacturing technology of refractory materials, comprehensive utilization of refractory materials.

The teachers who participated in this annual symposium and made reports were Li Yawei, Ke Changming, Wang Zhoufu, Deng Chengji, Li Xiangcheng, Zhang Haijun, Liao Ning, Dai Yajie, Wei Yaowu, Yuan Wenjie, Wang Qinhu, Duan Hongjuan, the students were Zhang Zhenyan, Wei Jiawei, Wang Hailu, Zhao Pengda, Luo Hao, Dong Bo, Jie Chuang, Li mengrui, Wang Seng, Zhang Jialian, Wu Wenhao, Tan Fangguan, Chen Zhe, Zhou Yongshun, Quan Zhenghuang.

During the conference, the China-Germany-Australian Postgraduate Academic Forum, the Refractory Technology Short Course, and the ATHOR Course were also held. Graduate students from China, Germany and Austria exchanged 14 academic reports. Five scholars from France and the United States teach the teachers and students of the short course of refractory technology. Four professors, including Li Yawei, Wei Yaowu, Yan Wen and Huang Ao, teach ATHOR courses.

The academic conference was started from 2017, this is the third session, it aims to build an international academic event in the global refractory sector.
